The Diocese of Huron was formed in 1857 subdivided from the Diocese of Toronto.
It includes most of southwestern Ontario, running from Tobermory to Pelee Island and from Windsor to Kitchener-Waterloo.
It contains 220 churches, 180 clergy and 60,000 lay people.
The churches shown each contribute at least $50,000 annually to fund the operation of the diocese. |
St Paul's Cathedral
472 Richmond Street, London, Ontario The first St Paul's Church was built in 1835 and was destroyed by fire in 1844. St. Paul's Church was rebuilt from the design of Canadian architect William Thomas and opened in February 1846. It was made the cathedral when the Diocese of Huron was created. ![]() St. John the Evangelist Anglican 280 St. James Street, London, Ontario The parish of St. John the Evangelist was founded in 1864 with services were conducted in various places until the current building was constructed in 1888. A hall for the Sunday School was built in 1895 and the spire was erected in 1897. In the 1920's added were the chapel, the rounded apse behind the main altar, and more classrooms for the hall. ![]() St. John the Evangelist 23 Water Street North, Kitchener, Ontario, N2H 5A4 St. John's is the oldest Anglican parish in Kitchener-Waterloo, having been established in 1856. The first building was constructed in 1861 and torn down in 1894. The current larger building was erected in its place designed by Toronto architect, Eden-Smith, and officially opened in October 1894.
